It is with deep sadness the family announces the death of Mrs. Elsie Marie (Ashton) Girouard of Sutton Road, Miramichi which occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on February 12, 2023. Born June 4, 1938 to Perley and Elsie Marie (Donovan) Ashton, upon her mother’s passing she was lovingly welcomed and cared for by Joseph and Eliza Butler and family. Elsie Marie considered herself very blessed to have been raised by this wonderful woman and never failed to share her wisdom and insight with her own family.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 63 years, Ludger Girouard, and her children Kimberly Lavoie (Gordie), Kevin Girouard (Yvonne), Stephen Girouard all of Miramichi and Roger Girouard (Andrea) of Dartmouth, NS. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Jordan Lavoie (Michael), Alex Girouard (Hannah), Elyse Girouard (Kevin) and Reese Girouard (Lauren) as well as her great granddaughter Quinn Shannahan.
Elsie Marie is also survived by her sister Anne Ward (Charles) of St. Marys, ON, brother-in-law, Lionel Girouard, sister-in-law Myrtle (Morrill) Sisk as well as many special nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and the Butlers, she was predeceased by her stepmother Sylvia, her in laws, Edmund and Clara Girouard, sister-in-law Mary Genevieve, brother and sister-in-law Ernest and Jeannette and brother-in-law George Girouard.
Elsie Marie was a devout Catholic, her faith and love in the Lord never waivered. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and devoted her life to caring for us. Mom appreciated the little things in life: having her hair set weekly, keeping her long nails beautifully painted, maintaining a spotless home, dining out and watching the beautiful flowers unfold in her garden each spring.
The tiniest little lady has left the biggest hole in our hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, St Patrick’s Church, Nelson-Miramichi, on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Dr. Gerard and Judy Losier Foundation in honor of Percy’s Place. Messages of condolence for the family can be sent through the funeral home website at www.bellsfh.ca
The family wishes to thank the extraordinary doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at Region 7 for the wonderful care they provided during her final weeks as well as the in-home caregivers who always brightened her day. Your kindness and compassion is greatly appreciated.
